Magic is one of the most important skills and is one of the three combat classes. It is used in combat via combat spells, fast transport around the world via teleportation spells, and allows crafted items to be enchanted and convert items into coins through utility spells. While it is possible to play the game without being skilled in Magic, it is a considerable advantage to be able to use many spells, especially High Level Alchemy and teleports.
Spells
Magic is used almost exclusively through casting spells on monsters, another player, on one's self (reflexively), or on an item.
Magic spells are divided into three distinct types: Combat, Teleport, and Utility spells.
- Combat Spells:
- Offensive spells - Used to deal magical damage against opponents.
- Curse spells - Used to disable or debilitate an opponent.
- Support spells - Offers a range of benefits to the caster or recipient.
- Teleport Spells: Teleport spells instantly transport players to a predetermined location.
- Utility Spells: Utility spells are primarily used by players outside of combat in skilling activities, such as enchanting jewellery or baking pies.
Magic Training
Rabbits (1-50/55)
Rabbits at Home are a great way to level up your starter Magic levels as they have no defence and a lot of health. They can be killed all the way up to level 99, however, it is advised that players do Slayer or take advantage of Multi-target barraging for faster XP and profit.
High alching (55-99)
At level 55, players can cast High Level Alchemy (commonly known as "alching") to convert various items into coins. The spell can be cast every 5 ticks, and each cast gives 65 experience. This is one of the best training methods for gaining passive Magic experience as it can be done while doing other activities, and it usually breaks even or profits slightly.
Ancient Multi-Target Spells (50-99)
The Chaotic Staff is the best weapon to use for training from 80 Magic as it offers a 20% bonus in Magic damage. The Staff of Light is a good alternative as it has 15% Magic bonus. The ancient staff and the master wand are a lot weaker since they do not provide any Magic damage bonus, so they are only recommended for short-term use.
Recommended Training Methods
Bandits
With a Zamorak or Saradomin item such as an Unholy blessing, bandits will remain permanently aggressive to the player. Combined with the use of Blood spells, in particular Bursts and Barrages, this can lead to some great AFK experience all the way to 99.
Slayer (1-99)
Many Slayer monsters can be killed with burst or barrage spells on task for fast Slayer experience. This is one of the most efficient ways to train Slayer and Magic, and it usually breaks even or profits.
Magic can be used throughout your Slayer training to efficiently train both skills at once. From level 62, you can switch to Ancients for multi combat tasks such as Naabe Deathslingers (Wilderness) to speed up your training.
Superheat item
Starting from 43 Magic you can use the Superheat Item spell to gain quick magic experience while training Smithing. This can be great if you're not looking to train combats, or you need to make bars. Use a staff of fire and nature runes (purchase from Yanille if you're an ironman) and you can spam click the spell to smelt the ore in the inventory in the same space. Set a preset up so you can reload it when you run out of ore, or it passes the spell.
Upgraded Weapons and Equipment
Certain items can also be upgraded in the Upgrader to gain empowered effects. Down below you'll find a table with all magic equipment and weaponry, and their respective effects.
